Less plastic more recycling: a commitment for more sustainable packaging
Lidl Malta’s endeavor is to further diminish its impact on the environment by reducing the use of plastic by at least 20% by the end of 2025. The company aims to achieve this goal by revising the packaging and repackaging of its private label products.
Furthermore, by the end of 2025 Lidl Malta commits to use 100 % recyclable plastic for the packaging of its own brand products. With these goals Lidl Malta supports the plastic strategy of the European Commission.
As a first concrete action towards the reduction of plastic Lidl Malta will stop selling disposable plastic items such as disposable cups and glasses, plates and cutlery by the end of 2019. These items are to be replaced by products made of alternative and recyclable materials on which the company is currently working together with its suppliers. As a second step, Lidl also aims to refrain from using plastic cutlery and drinking straws and instead use recyclable products in the convenience and beverage sector.
