A CORNER JUST FOR YOU: HERE'S HOW TO CREATE A COSY REFUGE FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY
When is the due date? In three weeks? A week? Tomorrow???? And the baby’s room isn’t ready yet? So, hurry up! No, no, we're just kidding. Don't stress. Even if everything isn’t perfect, your baby will be fine. He just wants to always be near you. The ideal is a cosy corner to nurse him and cuddle him. A corner you can make with your own hands.
In the first few months in particular, your baby seeks contact with the mother's body to nurse, sleep or even when out exploring the world. For mom and dad this would be a chance to take a breath and get some rest and the cosy corner is a special area in the nursery. It’s also ideal for nursing or feeding. On the wall shelves, you’ll have everything you need at your fingertips. And when your child gets older, this space can be used as a reading corner. So, grab your saw and drill!
- 1 wooden garden fence (180 x 60 cm)
- Brush and paint for wood (free of toxic substances)
- 2-6 screws and anchors for wall mounting
- 2 screws for the shelf
- Removable wallpaper
- 1 round wooden plank (diameter: 30 cm, thickness min. 18 mm)
- 2 small shelf supports (10 cm)
- Mattress (90 x 190 cm)
- Sheet for a mattress in a print that you love
- Several pillows
- String of lights
- Scissors, drill, electric screwdriver, saw
Step 1: define the area
A garden fence in the baby's room? You wonder why? It's easy: the fence is ideal for decorating children’s bedrooms with originality. Paint it with the most suitable colour. Or paint each piece a different colour. Once the colour is completely dry, choose a corner of the room and place the fence against the wall. Since later we put the mattress and pillows against it, it won’t move. However, if you want to be on the safe side, anchor it to the wall at two to four points with long screws and screw anchors.
Step 2: celestial and romantic!
From wallpaper cut out two small clouds (about 25 x 20 cm). Glue them to the wall where there is no fence. The wall will be the back side of the shelf with brackets. For the two shelves, saw the round wooden plank in half. Keeping one shelf support centred on the cloud, position the half round plank above. Check the alignment with a level, otherwise later things will fall off. Mark the holes for the screws with a pencil. Drill a hole of the same size as the wall anchors. Insert the wall anchors into the wall, place the support again and insert screws... done! Now use screws to attach the bottom shelf. Proceed the same way for the second shelf.
Step 3: it's time for cuddling, enjoy this corner
For a beautiful lighting effect, paste fluorescent stars between the shelves along with the clouds. Place a string of lights around the fence. Now cover the mattress with the sheet and put it in the corner with the pillows. What a cosy corner!
Do a test right away: lie down in your corner with something sweet bought at Lidl. How about a couple of chocolate chip cookies or a slice of cake? If you look on the shelves of your favourite supermarket, you’ll certainly find something that's right for you. We have no doubt about this. You can get rid of the crumbs later. Once the baby is born, there will surely be worse spots! But now it's time to relax. You can be proud of your masterpiece. This original decorative idea will certainly receive many compliments from people who will visit and your little one will love this corner.
