For over 150 years the so-called Baby Shower Party has been a practice particularly widespread in England and the USA. Tradition has it that the party is prepared by women for women, before the birth of the child. Relatives and friends of the future mother invite guests to participate in a fun little party. The ideal time is the last trimester of pregnancy, if the mother feels up to it. All the attention of the day is given to her: a real rain of gifts for her little one.
Welcome Home! - A warm welcome with a Baby Welcome Party
Today a party is often used to celebrate the event even after the birth. But in the early days, a young family needs a lot of tranquillity and time to deal with the new situation. So why not wait a couple of weeks after the birth and then invite people to a party for your child? The party doesn’t have to be prepared by a single person. Just collect ideas and requests, choose a date and delegate the work.
Perfect timing: plan and prepare the baby party
Everyone decides if they prefer a Baby Shower Party or a Baby Welcome Party. You also need to find a suitable place. You can celebrate at home or in a rented location. It is very useful to prepare a list of gift ideas. Guests can then agree between themselves. The right decorations and snacks complete the event.
Finger food and snacks - simple and delicious appetizers
You don’t need a refined buffet. Appetizers that can be prepared quickly are ideal. You can find everything you need at your nearby Lidl. Depending on the time of day, you can serve a breakfast, desserts or finger food. Light and simple foods like pasta or tomato salads are always welcome. Pair these with, for example:
- Baguettes and rolls
- Crudités with dips
- Vegetable sandwiches with fresh cheese
- Caprese skewers
- Crackers and cheese cubes
- Chicken wings
- Mini frankfurters
- Hors d'oeuvres like olives
In summer, vegetable skewers, Halloumi cheese and grilled mini hamburgers are ideal. For children attending the party, pasta, pizza and chips are always good ideas. Guests can also bring other items.
Cakes, muffins, and such – ideas for desserts and drinks
Cupcakes, muffins and chocolate creams are quick to prepare. Frozen products and baking mixes are easy to use. These can also be embellished with food colouring, sugar and decorations. To drink, you can offer fruit juices, mineral water, orange juice and smoothies; and non-alcoholic cocktails are perfect for the toast.
Playtime: participate in fun party games
Eat, chat, have fun: games break the ice and create a cheerful mood. These ideas guarantee a successful party and lots of laughter.
A variation of the game "city-country-river". The categories refer to the "baby" theme and can be decided together. Whether it's baby names, baby gear, baby clothes, baby vacation destinations or baby care products... there are no limits to the imagination. Categories are written on a sheet of paper in horizontal format, each player then recites the alphabet until someone says "Stop". For each entry, a word must be found that starts with the corresponding letter. Whoever finishes first wins.
Guess what the gift is
At the beginning of the party a sack is prepared where guests place their gifts. This will create a bit of suspense in the delivery of gifts. To begin: shake, listen, guess. Being blindfolded adds a degree of difficulty.
The baby food test
A baby party game to play divided into two groups. Each participant in a group is blindfolded and then they begin testing the baby food. To make the game fun, prepare small samples of mustard, ketchup and yogurt. Which of the groups can recognize the most tastes?
Ideas for the gift table: a diaper cake
A classic and a real attraction for the gift table: a homemade diaper cake. Diapers (about 30-45) are placed in the shape of cake and decorated with small colourful gifts. Proceed like this:
Open the diapers and roll them holding the printed side upwards. This way the rolls of the cake will be all white. Secure the rolled diapers with a rubber band or ribbon. For the base of the cake, cut a circle of stiff cardboard, decorate with a napkin to be fastened with tape on the underside. Place a bottle at the centre of the cake. Place the first round of diapers around the bottle.Depending on the number of diapers available it’s possible to form a cake with one, two or three layers. Also for the other layers, roll the diapers and secure them well. Place them in a circle, one after the other, on the first layers of the cake. Make sure that each layer makes a smaller circle. To stabilize all the layers, place large rubber bands around each level of the cake.
Baby gear as decoration
Finish by decorating the diaper cake with gifts and baby gear. Pacifiers, rattles, wipes, shampoo and creams are ideal. But even plastic flowers and teddy bears look great on the cake. Decorate all around the diapers and secure with double-sided tape. Wrap the cake in transparent plastic for gifts and add a bow or ribbon. The creative work is finished. It will certainly steal the show!
