WHEN BABY IS ILL: FOOL PROOF REMEDIES FROM THE HOME KITCHEN
It breaks your heart to see your child suffer from sore throats, coughs and colds. In addition to lots of love, there are also homemade preparations that help, made with ingredients that you already have in your kitchen.
Prevention is better than cure. During cold season, arm yourself with lots of vitamin C in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables. When you next do your grocery shopping at Lidl, buy lots of oranges, lemons, peppers, spinach and broccoli. However, if your child is already sick, make sure he’s drinking enough. Drinking fluids counteracts the dryness of mucous membranes and promotes the removal of mucous. The tea without sugar is good as well as hot lemon or hot milk with honey. And chicken soup is always a panacea against a cold.
In addition to these homemade preparations, the best remedy for a cold is lots of cuddling: cuddling produces the hormone oxytocin which helps to reduce pain, lowers blood pressure, eliminates fear and strengthens the immune system.
Move and expel mucous: home cough remedies:
A cough is a positive phenomenon. That may seem strange but it’s true: because coughing helps the body eliminate pathogens from the airway. And even if the child shakes while coughing, it is beneficial to his health. To keep mucous moving, you can opt for a tea for coughing, such as thyme, anise or primula. Hibiscus tea, plantain leaf or ivy are ideal for a dry cough.
Sage vapour also helps with dry coughs. The same goes for a tablespoon of honey before bed. Onion juice is great for loosening mucous, if you can convince your little one to drink it. To prepare, chop a large onion, mix with 50 grams of candy sugar and let marinate for three hours. The optimal dose would be a teaspoon of juice every two hours.
Homemade remedies for sore throats: a mighty tuber
A glass of warm milk with honey helps a sore throat. Even potato poultices around the neck are a very effective method: place some cooked potatoes and put them in a cloth, wrap well, then mash. Once the potatoes have cooled slightly, you can apply the wrap around the child's neck and wrap with a scarf. The potatoes should not be too hot, since you certainly don’t want to make the child cry. At your nearest Lidl you can find milk, honey and potatoes.
Common cold: breathe freely with these remedies
For adults with colds, the smell of menthol, peppermint or eucalyptus is pleasant. For children under two years, these substances can cause respiratory problems or even attacks of asphyxiation. However, sick children shouldn’t renounce steam inhalations. Instead of essential oils, you can use sage or chamomile. The best dosage is: three times a day for ten minutes, that way the infected mucous membranes stay clean and moist. During steam inhalations, make sure your child doesn't get burned with the hot water. At night, you can put a chopped onion near the bed. The odour keeps the nose open and helps him sleep better.
DIY remedy for earaches: prodigious onion
A typical manifestation of the common cold in children are earaches. Also in this case you can help your child with an onion: cut it into small pieces and grate it. Put the pulp into a piece of cloth or a rag and warm this package by putting it in a funnel over steam. If it's not too hot (check first), you can place it on the sore ear and secure it with a cap. Earache in children can develop quickly into a middle ear infection. If symptoms do not improve, we suggest that you consult a doctor.
