THE BABY BATH: HOW TO MAKE A BATH FUN FOR YOUR BABY
The first bath is an exciting experience for both parents and baby. With our advice, it will surely be an unforgettable event.
For us adults, a daily shower is an ordinary ritual. But is it the same for your world’s newcomer? There’s a general rule: you should bathe your child only when the navel is completely healed. Before then, for daily hygiene just use a clean cloth moistened with lukewarm water.
Baby care: as gently as possible
Your baby's skin is very delicate. In the first few months you should only bathe him once or twice a week, for three to ten minutes at the most. Water temperature should be 37 degrees. It’s best to check it with a thermometer. Even if the water seems comfortable, it might be too hot for the baby. In your first few weeks as a mom, you've probably already noticed that there are many situations where you have to multi task. The same is true for baby care. So, prepare everything before you need it, such as bath salts, wash cloths, towel, lotion, diaper bag and clean clothes. At you nearest Lidl you’ll fine baby care products to pamper your little treasure.
1, 2, 3 splash! The proper technique
Some babies have a hard time with water: in some cases, it may help to bathe them flat on your stomach or hold them against mom or dad’s chest while getting into the tub. If your little one smiles on the first try, then play with him a little. He should learn that water is something beautiful! Learn the correct way to support him: If you are right handed, put your left arm under the baby, so as to support her head on your forearm. With your right hand hold him under his bottom and place gently in the water. (If you're left-handed, do everything the opposite way). Now you can take your right hand and start to wash the baby with a cloth. For the face, just pat with clean water.
Bathing made easy: baby bath and vertical baby bath
The baby bath is a classic for bathing babies and small children. An alternative is the so-called vertical bath. As the name implies, it looks like a bucket and the child remains upright. Infants like the close environment and it reassures them. And even parents feel more secure, because the little one can’t slip away easily.
Dreaming of bubbles: soap and bath additives for baby
The skin of your baby is five times thinner than yours and cannot yet protect itself alone. Since the bath takes moisture away from the skin, additives or special soaps for babies come to the rescue and provide the best care. Oils regenerate the fat layer and are suitable for very dry skin. Everything that foams cleans thoroughly (in the case of older children, for example sand-filled scrapes). In the end, blot the skin dry, it’s less aggressive than rubbing. Many babies love a bit of cuddling with mom and dad after the bath. Or a little massage while applying cream. Bath products, shower creams or lotions to prevent injuries: at your nearest Lidl, you’ll find many products for the care of your baby.
