Warm toddler clothing for winter sports: what your child really needs!
The first outing in the snow with your toddler should be fun, safe and memorable. As small children cool down more quickly and spend a lot of time on the ground, the right winter clothing is more important than for adults. Therefore, rely on the tried and tested onion principle (layering), high-quality snow clothing and important accessories to keep your child happy and warm when skiing, tobogganing or building a snowman.
The 3 layers: The basis for warm and dry toddlers
When it comes to winter sports for toddlers, the three-layer structure is essential to optimally regulate the temperature and protect against moisture.

1. The base layer (functional underwear)
● Purpose: wicks moisture (perspiration) away from the skin.
● Choice: functional underwear made from synthetic fabrics. The synthetic material mix warms even when damp.
● Avoid: Pure cotton retains cold and should not be worn under ski clothing.
2. Insulation layer (warmth)
● Purpose: Retains body heat.
● Choice: A thin, breathable fleece jumper or a fleece jacket. For very small children or extremely cold days, a fleece suit can also be a good choice as it does not slip.
● Tip: Make sure that the mid-layer is light and offers freedom of movement.
3. The weather protection layer (outer clothing)
● Purpose: Protects against wind, wet and cold.
● Choice: A waterproof and windproof snow overall or a ski jacket and ski trousers with a high water column. For small children, overalls are often preferred as snow cannot penetrate the back.
● Important: Reinforced areas on the knees and buttocks are ideal as children sit and play in the snow a lot. Bright, vibrant colours ensure better visibility on the slopes!

Essential accessories: protect hands, feet and head
In addition to the main clothing, accessories are particularly important for small children, as they lose heat quickly through their head, hands and feet:
✓ Gloves: Choose waterproof mittens (not finger gloves). Mittens are easier to put on and take off and keep little hands much warmer as the fingers lie against each other. Tip: Pack a second pair to change into!
✓ Ski socks: Only one pair of thick, special ski socks (no normal socks on top of each other). They should avoid creases and fit well in the ski boot.
✓ Head protection: A thin balaclava under the ski helmet protects the head and neck from draughts.
✓ Eye protection: Children's ski goggles protect sensitive eyes from the sun, wind and glare.
✓ Skin protection: Sun cream and lip care with a high sun protection factor are essential in the mountains.
