Wine knowledge: 3 regions = not just 3 winesAll good things come in threes - this also applies to the northern Spanish Rioja region with its three areas along the River Ebro. Its vineyards, up to 40 kilometres wide, stretch across hills, terraces and plots. Atlantic, continental and Mediterranean climatic influences meet here over a length of just 100 km.Rioja Alta: freshness and ripenessIn Rioja Alta, higher-lying vines develop more acidity and freshness, while lower-lying vines lead to riper, softer flavours. The main variety is Tempranillo. The wines are full, aromatic - fruity to acidic, depending on the location.
Rioja Alavesa: strength and flavourIn Rioja Alavesa, exclusive grapes grow on small plots in a humid, temperate climate. The red wines are powerful, spicy and often show notes of herbs and dark fruit.Rioja Oriental: diversity and characterRioja Oriental is characterised by Atlantic and Mediterranean influences. Warm summers and cool winters make for powerful wines with a higher alcohol content and a diverse style.all three are delicious!
